In this context, numerous educational materials and activities have been developed with the purpose of raising public awareness about the Portuguese biological heritage and the importance of preserving biodiversity. These actions and interventions are aimed at the GENERAL PUBLIC, the SCHOOL COMMUNITY and the MEDIA.
Given its scientific expertise, InBIO meets specific societal demands by DEVELOPING AND SUPPORTING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES, and ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ENTITIES, by providing specific suggestions for science in society initiatives. In addition to the establishment of strategic partnerships with companies integrating the Business & Biodiversity programme, biodiversity conservation plans have been designed, including the delineation of micro-reserves and LIFE+ projects.
To meet these goals, InBIO’s researchers regularly participate as organizers and scientific advisors in the set-up of public exhibitions at the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto and the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN). Working together with our Science Communication and Outreach Office, our researchers consistently take part in SCIENCE FAIRS AND DISPLAYS, SCHOOL VISITS, and coordinate, monitor and enact a wide range of ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS, many of which sponsored by entities such as Agência Ciência Viva, the European Society for Evolutionary Biology, or the Society for the Study of Evolution.
